Additionally, there have been a number of internet specials exclusively on MTV.com.

Jersey Shore - Season 5

For the first quarter of 2010, season 1 of Jersey Shore was the highest-rated original cable series among 12- to 34-year-olds, with a season-high 2.6 rating for the finale.[1] The season also ranked #1 for its time period versus all cable competition among 12- to 34-year-olds.[1] The season finale was MTV's highest-rated original series telecast in almost two years.[1] Overall, the season averaged 2.7 million viewers.[2] The season featured five special episodes, including a half-hour show titled Jersey Shore: After Hours hosted by Julissa Bermudez which aired occasionally after select episodes featuring cast members discussing the week's episode.

On January 29, 2010, MTV announced that a second season of the series consisting of 13 episodes had been ordered and would air in Summer 2010.[13][14][15] MTV announced that the second season would follow all of the first-season cast as they "escape the cold northeast and find themselves in a new destination".[13][14] The second season was shot in the South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach, Florida from early March to late May 2010. The second season began on July 29, 2010.[16][17] For Season 2, the After Hours specials were expanded to one hour and received Top 15 Weekly Cable ratings. Like season 1, this season featured special episodes titled Jersey Shore: Hook-Up. Like Season 1's episodes, these are hosted by Kenny Santucci from the Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat and shown on MTV.com.

Season 3 was shot back in Seaside Heights, New Jersey over the summer;[39] filming began on July 25, 2010 and ended on September 4, 2010.[40] On July 20, 2010, MTV announced that the entire cast will return for the third season, with the exception of Angelina Pivarnick.[41] Angelina was replaced by Deena Nicole Cortese, a longtime friend of Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and a self-described "blast in a glass".[42]

Although the season is widely reported and regarded as the third season of the show, MTV refers to it as a continuation of season 2 on their website.[43] Season three premiered on January 6, 2011 to 8.45 million viewers, making it MTV's highest-rated telecast.[44] The second episode of the season once again set a series and MTV high, with 8.56 million viewers,[45] only to set another record with the airing of the fourth episode, which garnered 8.87 million viewers.[46]

MTV renewed Jersey Shore for a fourth season on January 24, 2011. It was the first to be shot overseas, this time following the cast in Florence, Italy.[62] Filming went from May to June 20, 2011[63] and the fourth season premiered on August 4, 2011. The fourth season aired for 12 episodes and finished airing on October 20, 2011.

Jersey Shore was renewed for a fifth season. Filming started a week after returning from Italy on June 27th, 2011 to August 1st, 2011.[76] It premiered on January 5, 2012 and follows the cast returning to Seaside Heights, New Jersey after spending the fourth season in Italy.

The roommates struggle to adjust to life at the shore without Vinny, while The Situation confronts his own internal demons. But it's also Pauly D's birthday -- and he gets the best present of his life! Mike deals with jealousy and storms out of the house.

On March 19, 2012, MTV confirmed that the series would return for a sixth season at Seaside Heights, with the whole cast returning. Snooki, being pregnant, lived next door to the shore house.[87] On August 30, 2012 it was confirmed that Season 6 would be the final season of the show.[88] Jersey Shore Season 6: The Uncensored Final Season was released on DVD, March 19, 2013.[89]

Jersey Shore was renewed for a fifth season. Filming started weeks after their return from Italy, June 27, 2011 and ended August 1, 2011. It follows the cast returning to Seaside Heights, New Jersey after spending the fourth season in Italy.

Jersey Shore star Mike"The Situation" admitted that he was surprised that former costar Sammi didn't return to the show after Ronnie announced he was taking a break from filming for season 5. Ronnie Ortiz-Magro has had a rough couple of years as he's been arrested multiple times for domestic violence and has battled alcoholism and depression. The star revealed that he would not be returning to Jersey Shore: Family Vacation for season 5 and would instead take a break to focus on improving his mental health. He received a lot of love and support from his costars, who believe that Ronnie's mental health break is much needed and will be beneficial.

Ronnie taking a break from the show seems like the perfect opportunity for Sammi's return, so when she didn't come back, even Mike was surprised. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Mike admitted, "I'm surprised that she hasn't come back yet, or maybe she's not gonna surprise us on vacation now that Ronnie's not here." Mike was referencing a moment from season 4 of the show when Snooki jumped out of a birthday cake, after not appearing in season 4 of the show, to surprise costar Jenni JWow for her birthday. While Sammi does not appear in season 5 like fans may have wished, her former costars have not completely lost hope, with Mike adding "you never know," suggesting she may still make a comeback someday.

On May 13, 2021, cast member Ronnie Ortiz-Magro announced he was taking a step away from reality TV after he was arrested for domestic violence and released on a $100,000 bond, and would not star in the show's fifth season.

News of a renewal comes just before Jersey Shore Family Vacation closes off its fourth season tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Per MTV, Jersey Shore Family Vacation takes the #1 spot across key demos in its time period and earned a 9% L+3 share from the previous season.

11. After the monster success of the first season, the cast reportedly got a major pay raise, earning $10,000 per episode, per the New York Daily News. By the series' end in 2012, they were bringing in $100,000 per ep.

15. After Angelina's dramatic exits from the cast, Deena, who had auditioned for the show before it began, was brought in as her replacement in season three. "Well, me and Nicole have been friends for, like, two years now, and, you know, she needed a partner in crime, like, you know, on the show with her," Deena told EW.

20. While the cast rarely held back on the show, JWoww and the Situation revealed the struggles they kept off-camera during the show's initial run on an episode of the revival series, Jersey Shore family Vacation. Ahead of the cast's Italy-set fourth season, JWoww suffered a miscarriage, revealing she was a "f--king mess" during filming because of the medication she was taking to cope. The Situation, meanwhile, explained his erratic season four and season five behavior was due to withdrawals as he was struggling to get sober.

The fifth season of Jersey Shore started off with a bang Thursday, as the lingering tension between Snooki and The Situation -- over a hook-up he swears to and she denies -- explodes in a confrontation between the pint-sized starlet and his brash new sidekick, "The Unit."

For several days -- almost half a week! -- you've been eating healthy foods, hitting the gym, and yes, keeping mindless reality shows off your TV screen. So it's understandable if you're feeling the urge to give yourself a break about now, and MTV is here to help. The network has an entire season of episodes following the booze-filled and spray tan-streaked adventures of Snooki, The Situation, DJ Pauly D, and the rest of the gang at the "Jersey Shore."

I have a feeling I'm about to be sucked into another season. In the event you decide to skip the gym and watch just this once, the "Jersey Shore" season premiere is Thursday, January 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

In seasons 1 and 3, housemates rented a Seaside Heights abode for summer shenanigans such as partying at drinking, searching for hook-ups and working at a boardwalk stand, as camera crews followed around the

I guess that Italy really did put a curse on the cast of "Jersey Shore." Not only have more than half the self-proclaimed Guidos been injured during the filming abroad, but now MTV is putting the kibosh on the kids after they finish up shooting the fifth season back in New Jersey.

To the rest of us, this tragicomic experiment has already gone on too long. Why do these poster children for bad ideas need another 13 episodes back on the shore once they've returned from their failed European vacation? Although the jury is still out on whether car accidents, fistfights and carpal tunnel syndrome count in the "con" column to MTV producers, the fact is that any real dramatic tension on the show is usually leaked months ahead of time by the paparazzi, and Italy has been relatively quiet on that front. Not a good sign about the narrative arc this season.

Despite your personal feelings toward the show, the ratings on the "Shore" have inexplicably remained near the top of their time slot all three seasons ... including the most recent incarnation last fall where literally nothing happened beyond Ronnie and Sammi Sweetheart toeing the line on domestic violence charges.

So while it's tempting to ask why MTV hasn't pulled the plug sooner on the show, a better question would be, "Where are they going to find new personalities big enough to fill the oompa-loompa-shaped hole left by Snooki?" A cash cow like "Shore" doesn't stop running just because the players have started Derek Jetering their way into larger paychecks; it just attempts to stop the bleed-out. After salary disputes that have to be renegotiated every season, MTV is just letting go of the entire team -- from Vinny to JWOWW and everyone in between -- and hiring a new crop of eager young idiots who will work for peanuts compared to the millions Michael "the Situation" Sorrentino currently makes. 041b061a72
