How to Reassess Your Chess, Fourth edition

Silman has a bit of a sarcastic attitude to his writing, which can be a positive or a negative, depending on how you like his verbal style. For me, the fact that this book is about not necessarily just (a) how to play better chess but rather (b) how to reassess your own chess in the service of (a), well, that fact makes the contents a bit more useful. It's a well-bound, nice volume, with all the usual advantages (or disadvantages) of a wordy chess tome.

2011 Guardian Chess Book of the Year!! "Everything he talks about is practical and relevant. He discusses common problems and common positions in detail, but the book is also personal and anecdotal in a way that brings examples and ideas vividly to life (..) Excellent value."
